Is Morocco a travel destination? Yes, indeed, especially for active travelers. Our Overland Morocco south trekking tour starts in Marrakech, then travels over the Atlas Mountain's highest pass to Ouarzazate, visiting TIchka and Ailt Ben Haddou Kasbah. On the way from Ouarzazate, we will travel east to Sekoura and Kalaa de Megouna Valley of Dades overnight in Tinghir. We will visit the Todra Canyons and proceed to Erfoud for our Sahara experience over the dunes of Merzouga. The next day, our small group travels the backroads to Zagora overland, trekking for a full day in the Valley of Draa (the largest palm give belt on earth) overnight in Zagora. Today, we will visit the Saharan oases of Tinfou, Oulad Driss, M'Hamid, and Tamegrout, trekking back to Zagora for an overnight. We will head back to Marrakech via the Atlas Mountains on our last day. Morocco's Southern and Northern lands differ completely from one another, contrasting both climate and landscape. The South embodies a step backward to an era of biblical aura and a surviving Mesopotamia captured in a time of originality and authenticity, especially for the active traveler who likes nature and rural cultures to explore trekking mountains and valleys.

The vast Sahara seems surreal, with its plateaus bordered by mirages, waddies punctuated by sandcastle-like Kasbahs, and romantic oases where tall date palms grow surrounded by silver-green reed, all found on a horizon of dunes constantly reshaped by gentle winds, sheltered by azure-blue African skies. Filmmakers Cecil DeMille and Martin Scorsese could not capture on film the majesty and unsurpassed beauty of Morocco’s Southern lands, literal heaven on earth, which has a depth that can only be truly embraced and appreciated by the naked eye. Join us for a Morocco active trekking tour that would be a feast for your senses exploring the Southmost part of Morocco, visiting Marrakech, Ouarzazate, Skoura, Dades Valley, Todra Valley, Ziz Valley, Erfoud, Merzouga Dunes, Zagora the Draa valley and the trail of 1000 Kasbahs To Ouarzazate. Are group tours cheaper? Group tours are usually cheaper than private. However, you should also consider that group tours save you time researching, organizing, and booking your trip and activities. Best small-group active tour to Morocco. This trekking adventure overland tour to Morocco can be tailored as a private tour to meet your requirements for the time frame and budget. Day 1: New York – Casablanca – Marrakech

You will depart from North America on an overnight flight to Casablanca, then connect to a flight to Marrakech. Dinner will be served on board for your Morocco adventure trekking tour.

Day 2: Marrakech

Upon arriving at the Menara Airport in Marrakech, your guide will be waiting for you at the arrival gate to greet you and meet the small group to start your Morocco trekking tour. We will transfer you to your hotel for check-in and relaxation a little before we start our Morocco overland adventure tour trekking the Atlas Mountains peaks and valleys and the Sahara Desert oases and dunes. The afternoon will be devoted to Marrakech sightseeing. This unique city is located where the desert and mountains meet. Known as the “Pearl of the South,” the Almoravid Dynasty established it in the 11th century. You will spend your day with your local guide visiting sights, including the Saadian Tombs, the Dar Si Said Museum, the Menara Gardens, and the city’s focal point: the 12th-century Koutoubia Minaret. After lunch, you will have an opportunity to visit the souks, many alleyways with multicolored shops, and the Djemaa El Fna Square, where snake charmers, acrobats, and fortune-tellers put on a never-ending show. You will conclude your day with dinner and accommodations at your hotel.

Day 3: Overland from Marrakech to Tinghir

Following breakfast, you will start your journey trekking southward to Tinghir via Taddert and the Tizin Tichka Pass, located in the heart of the Atlas Mountains at over 12,000 feet high. Additionally, you will visit the Berber village of Ait Ben Haddou and stop in Ouarzazate for other hiking activities. Afterward, you will follow the route of a thousand Kasbahs through the Dades Valley to the village of Tinghir, where you will visit Kalaa des Mogouna, the Persian roses haven. Day 4: Travel from Tinghir to Erfoud

Your morning will consist of a hiking trip visiting the Todra Gorges, after which you will continue to Erfoud, where you will explore the Ziz Valley palm groves and lush oases. One of the most aesthetically pleasing southern routes, Erfoud is a dry, red belt of the Sahara Desert with a sudden drop into a valley filled with date palm groves and diverse fruit trees; it is a land lost in antiquity and primitiveness. Dinner and accommodations will be provided at your hotel.

Day 5: Merzouga Dunes – Rissani – Zagora

Your desert guide will take you to the magnificent dunes of Erg Chebbi to watch the sunrise over the spectacular Merzouga dunes in the Sahara is a breathtaking encounter worth experiencing. Day 6: Zagora – M’Hamid – Tinfou – Tamegroute

You will spend your day on a trekking excursion that will take you to the natural gateway of the Moroccan Saharan Desert. You will drive through the lowlands and along the mountain passes to Tamegroute, a humble village where deep knowledge is transmitted most simplistically. There you will visit the famous Moorish Koranic Library. Full of rare books and documents, the library includes 13th-century writings made on gazelle hides. This area is also known for its neolithic pottery still alive today. You have reached today the largest palm grove oases in the world that stretch on a continuous belt for over 800 miles along the Draa River. Afterward, you will return to Zagora for the night.

Day 7: Zagora – Ouarzazate – Marrakech

Following breakfast, you will leave Zagora for your return trip to Marrakech, stopping in Ouarzazate, where women still weave the Ouazguita carpets famous for their natural colors and geometric and symbolic designs. Here, life is concentrated in the oases and Kasbahs, contrasting with the vast and stark desert plateaux surrounding the city. Finally, you will return to Marrakech for a farewell dinner, where you will experience a typical Moroccan meal under a ceremonial Berber tent along with a spectacle of the Fantasia.
