About This Tour

Overview

This is not the most spectacular corner of Morocco, nor does it try to be.

Its attraction is quieter and more difficult to explain.

There is something in the relationship between the mountains and valleys, the argan trees and cultivated terraces, the villages, the water and the Atlantic air that gives this part of Morocco an unusual sense of harmony. I have travelled through it for decades, and each time I return, I feel embraced by the landscape.

Travelers I have brought here have often felt something similar. They arrive as visitors, but somewhere along the journey that distinction begins to soften. They walk with local people, eat what the land produces, sleep in villages, learn about plants and water, share bread and tea, and gradually begin to feel less as though they are passing through someone else's world.

For a little while, they belong.

Perhaps that is the real reason for this journey.

Not simply to discover another part of Morocco, but to experience a place whose beauty does not demand your attention.

It quietly invites your presence.

Good to Know

Highlights

  • Walk through High Atlas valleys where water, terraces, orchards and villages have grown together over generations.

  • Travel slowly through Amazigh country, staying in mountain communities and sharing the everyday rhythms of village life.

  • Follow ancient mountain paths with a local trekking team and mule caravan rather than experiencing the Atlas only from the road.

  • Discover the argan landscape as a living ecosystem and learn how the tree supports people, animals, food traditions and rural livelihoods.

  • Walk the wild Atlantic coast around Essaouira and Sidi Kaouki, where mountain country gradually gives way to ocean, dunes and wind.

  • Spend time in the Seksaoua Valley learning how local knowledge lives through plants, food, water, agriculture and the seasons.

  • Share bread, tea and meals with local families, not as staged performances but as expressions of hospitality.

  • Learn from local women about medicinal plants, traditional household knowledge, bread making, cooking and the many uses of what grows around them.

  • Experience the hammam, music, language and food as parts of everyday life rather than isolated cultural attractions.

  • Travel through a part of Morocco whose beauty rarely announces itself. Walk slowly enough, stay long enough, and you may begin to understand why people who come here often feel strangely at home.
